About Us

Tioga Research is exclusively focused on products applied to the skin. With approaching two decades of experience, Tioga Research has developed world-leading capabilities in formulation innovation and skin delivery & permeation screening. These capabilities are evidenced in a body of patents and patent applications claiming topical and transdermal formulations (assigned to clients), in unique capabilities for screening the interaction of formulations with the skin using high throughput experimentation (“HTE”) platforms, and by an extensive track record of successful project executions. 

  

Leading pharmaceutical, consumer healthcare and cosmetic companies look to Tioga Research, a ‘pure play’ contract research organization (“CRO”), as a preferred outsourcing partner. Tioga Research is chosen worldwide to undertake R&eD of topical drug products, transdermal drug products, prestige cosmetics, personal care products, and certain medical devices. In the pharmaceutical arena, Tioga Research is positioned to advance a research program from concept to the point of investigational new drug application (“IND”), or to complete, in a cost-effective manner, one or more of the necessary components of the submission process. 

  

Tioga Research has laboratory and office facilities in San Diego, CA. The greater San Diego region is home to some 330 life sciences CROs and contract manufacturing organizations (“CMO”s). Tioga Research’s parent company, Encube Ethicals, operates the world’s largest single-site manufacturing facility for topical pharmaceutical products. When a formulation program graduates successfully from Tioga Research, a client has the option to benefit from Encube’s capabilities to progress the program into manufacturing through all phases of clinical trials and to a full commercial scale. Our management team includes topical formulation experts with decades of industry experience, pioneers of high throughput experimentation, veterans of analytical, quality and development fields in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as seasoned entrepreneurs and operations managers. Our core team is supplemented by a network of consultants and advisors and third–party collaborations. We have delivered premier services to clients since 2002. 

History

Tioga Research formally commenced operations in February 2011. The history of Tioga Research, though, dates to July 2002, when the predecessor company fqubed, Inc. (“fqubed”) was formed. fqubed was acquired by Toronto-based Nuvo Research, Inc. (“Nuvo”) in December 2005. Continuing operations as fqubed, Inc. until a formal name change to Nuvo Research US in 2010, fqubed was the research & development division of Nuvo until January 2011.  Tioga Research was then created under a management buyout (“MBO”) in February 2011. After a period of substantial growth and expansion, Tioga Research became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Encube Ethicals in December, 2019.

Community

Tioga Research serves an active role in the San Diego CRO community. We participate as a member of the Biocom CRO committee and contribute to educational events. We also speak on science and biotechnology topics at local area high schools and help with graduate and undergraduate events at local universities. Beyond the Southern California region, we contribute presentations at national and international meetings and help to organize symposia at national events, for example at the Gordon Research Conference on the Barrier Properties of Mammalian Skin, the American Chemical Society, the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
